The Seldoms Present "The Making"
See The Seldoms' newest dance work, "The Making", unfold as a roaming performance through one of Chicago's historic fieldhouses. "The Making" continues the company's investigation of power that began with the dance theater works "Power Goes" and "RockCitizen". "The Making", a piece without words, considers states and positions of voicelessness  of powerlessness  drawing attention to the perceptual lenses that render a person, a people, a neighborhood, a nation visible or invisible. As bodies surge, collapse, stutter, endure, and assert themselves in three distinct settings designed by three visual artists, "The Making" offers experiences of seeing, partially seeing or not seeing at all. "The Making" suggests that our recognition and understanding of others is tenuous and fragile, based on eyes that become organs either of empathy or division.

The Seldoms are in residency at Pulaski Park, through the Chicago Park Districts Arts Partners in Residence Program, which unites artists and communities in Chicago's parks.

"The Making" is presented as part of the Chicago Park Districts Night Out in the Parks series, supported by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Arts programming in neighborhoods across the city advances the goals of the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Cultural Plan. Now in its fifth year, the 2017 Night Out in the Parks series will host over 1,000 cultural events and programs at more than 250 neighborhood parks throughout the city, making community parks a safe haven and hubs of activity. Projects will vary from traditional performances and concerts, to movies, peace rallies, community workshops, nature based programs, dance pieces, festivals, and more. The Chicago Park District has partnered with more than 100 arts and community organizations to expand and produce this successful initiative.
