Directed and Presented by Madsen Minax.
'Kairos Dirt' follows the strange happenings of a queer middle school lunch lady and her religious co-worker, an androgynous student, a hospice provider, a ministry worker, a transgender elder, a mystical mortician, and an astrologer/life coach/phone sex operator. Amid the post-industrial decay of the American South, their lives intertwine through collective dreams where a transworldly being reveals a carnal alternate realm. Relationships unfold in unusual and fantastical landscapes as television monitors, radio frequencies, orifices and dreams all become portals to access this mysterious erotic and excessive dimension. Tones reminiscent of the New Queer Cinema movement of the 1990s, cult, camp, sci-fi and neo-noir genres collide freely in this experimental narrative film. The total run time of Kairos Dirt & the Errant Vacuum is 90 minutes. The director, Madsen Minax, will be in attendance for the screening. The work is made possible in part by the Meredith J. Long Prize and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX, and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art.
Praise for Kairos Dirt: "...Plunges the viewer into a dreamlike state." -- The Memphis Flyer "Kairos Dirt gleefully elides genre and gender categories" -- Brooklyn Magazine The most unusual film "Kairos Dirt" is an unclassifiable mix of far-out metaphysics (think "Donnie Darko") and the occasional startling image (think John Waters).
