Rheos Ensemble
Casey Nielsen formed the Rheos Ensemble to provide himself the opportunity to explore the beautiful and ever widening field of chamber music written for the guitar. True to its name, Rheos is a fluctuating aggregate of musicians that can be brought together as the music requires, and busy schedules allow. In this program soprano Bethany Hamilton joins Rheos for selections from Dominick Argento's Letters from Composers (1968), and flutist Emma Hospelhorn joins Casey to perform William Bolcom's Tres Piezas Lindas (1995). Casey will also be performing two beautiful solo guitar compositions; Leo Brouwer's Sonata (1990) and Matilde Salvador's Homenatage a Mistral (1989).
