Join Janet Keeler for a two-hour session that will flex your creative writing muscles. You will take part in several writing exercises aimed at bringing rich detail to your work. Food will be our muse, but the lessons you learn here can be used to write about anything.
About the Instructor: Janet Keeler is an instructor in the department of Journalism and Digital Communication at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, where she teaches basic journalism courses, food writing and food photography. She is the founder and coordinator of the departments Graduate Food Writing and Photography Certificate program.
Keeler is a 35-year newspaper veteran and was until December 2015 the food and travel editor at the Tampa Bay Times, where she worked for 22 years. Keeler is the author of Cookielicious: 150 Fabulous Recipes to Bake and Share. Her professional newspaper work has been honored by the Association of Food Journalists, Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Headliner Awards.
She has an undergraduate journalism degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and a masters degree in journalism and media studies from USFSP. She is currently a doctoral student in USFs Department of Education, working toward an Ed.D in Program Development with an emphasis in educational innovation.
