Bobby Jo Valentine with Amanda Markley
San Francisco based singer-songwriter Bobby Jo Valentine received numerous accolades and TV and radio appearances for his 2011 debut, including designation of Songwriter of the year by the West Coast Songwriter's Association, spots on KGO, KSVY and KRSH and ABC's "The Morning Blend" and NBC's "Outlook Video." Dubbed "the nicest guy ever to pick up an acoustic guitar" by LA We ekly, the pop-rock powerhouse was also recently featured in a commercial for the 2013 Ford Fusion. Ultimately, though, his hard hitting emotional search for A Place To Belong was just a prelude to the hope and confidence the pop/rocker exudes now that, on his second full length album, he's finally found a Home.
Produced by Calvin Turnbull (Sheryl Crow, Five For Fighting), Homean ambitious 13 track set Valentine calls "my first big boy album"is driven by a mix of stripped down, heartfelt acoustic songs and dynamic full band tracks featuring several talented musicians, including bassist David Hayes (Blondie, Van Morrison) and veteran drummer Dave Tweedie. From the hard driving, sexy "commitment is cool' rocker "Come Back To Bed" to the universal yearning of the pop-blues influenced title track and the thoughtful, whimsical "Chase Away My Dark," the songs are filled with optimistic, honest messages about hope and day to day struggles. They roll together like a wave of heartfelt confessionals and anthemic philosophies about life. Valentine explores the tense high wire between light and dark, but doesn't always wrap things up with a tidy answer.
The singer's sense of realism, charm and infectious melodies and vocals earned the praises of industry vets like Brian Lucey, mastering engineer for The Shin and The Black Keys, who said, "Bobby Jo writes with a sweetness and honesty seldom heard in acoustic pop music." Just as importantly, those same attributes have earned Valentine a large and ever- expanding West Coast fan base in the year and a half he has been performing.
Amanda Barkley is a young singer/songwriter from the Seattle area. With a classical guitarist dad, and a mom with a background in singing, she grew up surrounded by music. Exposed to an eclectic mix of genres, including folk, pop, gospel, classic rock, and country, her tastes and style grew from a young age.
At sixteen, she was diagnosed with stress fractures in her spine. This curtailed her horseback riding passion and ended a dream to one day be considered for the U.S. Olympic Team in show jumping. She turned to writing to help ease her frustration, pain and depression and recorded her first EP, LOVE AND WAR at the age of seventeen. Her second album BREATHE, was produced by the talented and award winning singer/songwriter Scott Krippayne, who has written songs recorded by Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Kutless, Point of Grace, Avalon and Jaci Velasquez as well as others.
BREATHE is a collection of songs of hope and inspiration, written from the heart. It is a mellow and introspective set, evoking feelings of a warm cup of tea and crackling fireplace. Her melodies and sound have caught the attention of radio stations both here and overseas. Her fans in the U.K. are numerous, and building since she gained airplay from a UK station. James Crowther, DJ for Reading Radio Station said "once in a while someone appears who truly takes my breath away. It was an honour to play you yesterday and we had great feedback."
Amanda's inspirational lyrics have recently crossed over, and her song HOME has been played on the west coast station Racman Christian Radio. She is just beginning her performance career, and is a favorite of both young and old. Personable and sincere at her concerts, she is winning new fans everywhere she goes. She has shared the stage with bands including The Union Street Orchestra, Chasing Vegas, Step One, and Hatters For Hire at venues varying from The Kirkland Teen Union Building to El Corazón in Seattle.
One listener wrote, "The whole album is very touching and evokes all sorts of emotions. Each song could and does easily stand on its own. The unique sound of this music tears at one's heart strings and pulls emotions ranging from happiness and excitement to very sad"
She hopes her music will inspire both young and old to follow their dreams, appreciate what they have, and "just breathe." It all gets better from here.
