The Dance Complex kicks off its Fall Performance Series with an evening of collaborative work by Chavasse Dance & Performance, Sarah Konner and Austin Selden Dance, and The Median Movement.
Chavasse Dance & Performance and Sarah Konner and Austin Selden Dance present Emi, Amy and Mimi, the Celebrated Love Partners, and their Bicycle, Emi Nomo, a new trio by Amy Chavasse, Sarah Konner and Austin Selden that imagines three characters bound together through a shared memory of something lost.
The Median Movement presents You being Me being You and the Eye; a part field study, part composed duet created and performed by Xan Burley and Alex Springer which aims to examine and develop unique movement signatures through mimicry and embodiment.

Artists Bios:
Choreographer, educator, improviser and Artistic Director of Chavasse Dance & Performance, AMY CHAVASSE, is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan. Shes also been guest artist/ faculty at Bennington, Middlebury, Arizona State, UNC-Greensboro, Cornish and UNCSA. Her work has been presented throughout the U.S. including, Gowanus Art + Production, Dance New Amsterdam, Dixon Place, 100 Grand, Movement Research at Judson Church, Triskelion, BAAD Ass! Womens Festival), Jacobs Pillow Inside/Out, Links Hall, Chicago and Flynn Space, Burlington VT. Internationally, she has taught and her work has been presented in Uppsala, Sweden, Cuba, Lithuania, Vienna, Colombia, Vancouver BC, the American Dance Festival/ Henan (China) and The Beijing Dance Festival. She has created works for Tanz Tangente (Berlin) and for university dance companies across the US. Her choreography has been described as simultaneously absurd, smart and disturbing, and she chooses her collaborators well. (Quinn Batson, OffOffOff). Her verbal commentary on sadism and authority, matched by her powerful and aggressive physicality, was the most provocative piece of art I have seen in the past year, describes a recent solo project. (Weisen, Tampa Bay Art Breaker.) She danced in the companies of Laura Dean Dancers and Musicians, Bill Young and Dancers, and others and in many independent projects in NYC and beyond. SARAH KONNER and AUSTIN SELDEN have been creating dance-theater performance together since 2007. Sarah and Austin have shown their work at venues including the Detroit Institute of Arts, Berkshire Fringe Festival, FLICfest 2013, Judson Church, Danspace Project, Dance New Amsterdam, The Dance Complex, Triskelion Arts, AWARD Show! Philadelphia, the Kennedy Center, and through the Field Emerging Artist Residency in 2012. They have been lucky to collaborate with artists including ChavasseDance&Performance, Anneke Hanson, the Median Movement, and Megan Kendzior. Sarah teaches Contact Improvisation and performs improvisation with setGO Performance, Shura Baryshnikov, and others. She holds a BFA in Dance and a BS in Environmental Science from the University of MI; and has training in Yoga, Pilates, and Body-Mind Centering®. Austin holds a BFA in Dance from the University of MI, a certification in Pilates and training in Body-Mind Centering®. He worked with Shen Wei Dance Arts from 2011- 2017 and has recently collaborated with Jordan Isadore and Dai Jian.

XAN BURLEY + ALEX SPRINGER, are Brooklyn-based performers, choreographers, teachers, and arts administrators. Since 2008, their collaborative choreography has been presented at Jacobs Pillow Inside/Out (2017 Research Fellows), Center for Performance Research (2016 Technical Residency recipients), Danspace Projects DraftWork, Movement Research at the Judson Church, University Settlement (2013-14 Artists-in-Residence), Brooklyn Arts Exchange (2011 Space Grant Recipients), DanceNOW (2011 Encore Challenge winners), the 92Y, and Triskelion Arts, among others. They have enjoyed staging their work on many university dance departments and professional companies, most recently Zenon Dance Company in Minneapolis, MN. Their choreography appears in the feature-length film Frances Ha (2013). Burley and Springer were members of Doug Varone and Dancers until 2017 and have performed extensively with other artists in NYC. They received the 2015 Emerging Artist Award from their alma mater, the University of Michigan. In September, they are excited to develop their work at the Marble House Project in Dorset, VT.
