Clumsy Sublime - RHINOFEST 2013
Clumsy Sublime Written by Barrie Cole
Clumsy Sublime is a staged reading of a new work in progress about an uncommon friendship between a shaken-up suburban fifteen year-old girl and a newly unemployed gay man approaching his 50th birthday. Through their jarring and extraordinary encounter with the two subjects in Edward Hopper's 1959 painting "Excursion into Philosophy," they cultivate transformative ideas about reality and aliveness. When, out of both curiosity and celebration, the two decide to throw what they call "a new kind of party," they learn that their guests have some surprising needs and that art itself has a backlog of gripes to disclose.
