Solo Sundays 9/24/17
W H A T I S S O L O P E R F O R M A N C E? Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and soulful, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal vision.
TONI WEINGARTEN ------------------------------------- "Babe in the HollyWood"
When Toni moves to Los Angeles one of the first things she needs to do is get a job. Somehow she winds up at a Beverly Hills Salon catering to rockers and emerges with a "do" that looks like she's fronting a Heavy Metal band. Who's going to hire her looking like this?
PHIL SURKIS ------------------------------------- "Happy People Do Not Play The Bass"
Phil fidgeted with his handwritten note card for the whole 7-mile bus ride, resisting the urge to let the humid New England air stream carry it out the window. Now face to face with the record shop bulletin board, he was forced to make a decision. Once a fantasy, starting a band could now actually become a real thing. A really scary, real life thing. Not feeling very musician-like, he did just spend an hour on a bus. Ambivalence was no longer an option.
RON JONES ------------------------------------- "Naked Zombies"
Ron is standing naked in front of Helen Ludwig McGill's drawing group. Problem is, there is no drawing group. Just Helen and her cat named Ralph. At age 65, what the hell is Ron doing? It must have been the red speedos!
JILL VICE ------------------------------------- "A Fatal Step"
Tonight, shes got it all figured out. A silk nighty, a couple of candles, and that perfume that drives him absolutely wild. Our femme fatale is poised on her velvet chaise lounge primed for seduction, but Frank he just walks on by. Something is terribly wrong. Has his career in podiatry lost its footing? Sometimes a dame has to take matters into her own hands, but good intentions can lead to . . . MURDER.
