RUATEPUPUKE
RUATEPUPUKE PERFORMANCE is a living laboratory of ancestral connection that explores an international, intercultural, indigenous and interdisciplinary lens through performance and ceremonial activation.
Facilitated by Maori choreographer, Jack Gray (Ngati Porou from Tokomaru Bay, New Zealand), the performance is a weaving together of global intentions for how indigenous contemporary dance moves conversations forward in an embodied way.
Gray and I Moving Lab co-founder Dåkot-ta Alcantara-Camacho (Matao from Guåhan) blend their indigenous artforms to support local communities and initiatives that support manaakitanga (reciprocity) as a shared cultural value in the context of an evolving contemporary world. Together, they bring their concept I LAND a Festival (of sorts) on a journey from as far away as Lutruwita/Trouwanna (Tasmania, Australia), Hawaii, Duwamish (Seattle) and Multnomah (Portland) territories.
Chicago has always been the home of international taonga (treasures) and this performance of RUATEPUPUKE epitomises the impacts and effects of how stories evolve, shift and transform. Workshopped in a lab intensive in Chicago, the performance draws inspiration from Maori spatial dimensions of feeling, knowing and being. These threads aim to deepen the audiences relationship to place, and this place in particular.
The multi-media performance will include contemporary dance performance, some hip hop indigenous stylings by sonic magician Infinite Dakota, offerings by local and guest practitioners.
RUATEPUPUKE the Performance, is a 2 hour meditation and sensorial experience, that takes in spaces/voids from Te Kore to Te Ao Marama from Tokomaru Bay to Chicago. Experience the potential of the in-between in this evocation of spirit, body and mind.
PLACES are strictly limited and require the pre-purchasing of tickets. There are no door sales available. First come first served. BOOK TODAY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.
