Poisoning Pigeons in the Park: The relevant, radical and risque songs of Tom Lehrer
After a rollicking run at the Market Theatre in Pike Place Market, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" returns for one night only, Thursday, December 27 at 7:30 pm at the Bathhouse Theatre. The pigeons around Green Lake had better watch out...
Tom Lehrer is alive and well and a new revue of his songs is getting Seattle audiences singing along again! Lehrer, a cult figure when he retired in the early '70s, was a mathematician at Harvard and MIT. But no one was better at spinning out catchy and hilarious songs that satirized the politics and culture wars of the time.
A whole generation of us, who grew up singing with his LP's, are discovering that his tunes are just as catchy and his lyrics as sharp and timely as ever: "The Vatican Rag," "Hanukkah in Santa Monica," "Smut," "National Brotherhood Week," and "Send the Marines..."
This performance is a benefit to support the Hit and Run Theater Company's highly original production of Thornton Wilder's "Our Town," directed by Arne Zaslove, at Century Ballroom on Capitol Hill early in the new year. Libations will be available at intermission, as well as enticing raffle and auction items.
