SEPTEMBER Wednesday, September 13 Introduction to Zentangle Laurie Bell
Introduction to Zentangle Would you like to create a simple but satisfying piece of art in 60 minutes? The Zentangle Method will do just that. Zentangle® is an easy way of creating beautiful images by drawing structured patterns called tangles. It is a proven method to promote mindfulness and fosters self-esteem, focus, relaxation, creativity, and stress relief. People of all ages and skill levels can create Zentangle® art and have fun in the process These classes will provide the historical background of Zentangle while introducing the basic steps of the method and exposure to the associated vocabulary, tools, and skills used. Previous art and drawing experience is not required.
Wednesday, September 27 Printmaking: Monotypes Chris Kroehler
The technique of printing monotypes will be explored. Prints will be made by painting on plexiglass using ink/oil paint then pressed by hand onto sheets of paper. Stencils, watercolor, solvents, brushes, and other tools will be used to embellish the monotype prints. Students will learn that monoprinting is a form of printmaking that can only be made once, unlike most printmaking techniques, where multiple prints can be pulled.
OCTOBER Wednesday, October 11 Sugar Skull Inspired Paper Quilling Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys
Participants will learn about Dia de Muertos celebrations by creating a Sugar Skull Paper Quilling. Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, curled, twisted, otherwise manipulated, and glued together to create decorative shapes and designs. The class will have access to reference books and crafts related to Dia de los Muertos to get you inspired.
Wednesday, October 25 Arabic Calligraphy Elisabeth Mitchell
Arabic calligraphy is more than ten centuries old! Come learn the bare bone basics! Arabic script moves right to left and has different shapes for letters in initial, medial, and final positions. If you are intrigued by its beauty and flow and want to whet your appetite for further practice and study, join us for this introductory session. At the end of the session, you will have had practice with the Arabic alphabet and several words.
NOVEMBER Wednesday, November 15 Bath Products: Soap, Salts & Fizzies Spicy Santiago
This workshop includes easy hands-on creations of bath products. Participants will learn the basics to carry them into the gift-giving season. We will create three items: a melt and pour soap, bath salts, and a bath bomb fizzie. Bath and body products add a luxury touch to our lives and help our skin stay healthy. Beginner bath products are easy to create, and all the necessary supplies will be provided.
