Event
The Next Big Thing - Cross Laminated Timber
Presented by:
Heavy Timber Group | Structurlam Products LP
Not just plywood on steroids, but instant multi-story structures without formwork, pouring and waiting to cure. The CLT system is a multi-layer wood panel where each layer of boards is placed cross-wise to adjacent layers for rigidity and stability. Once CNC framed you have the perfect custom kit for a quick and easy fit. But how does the system accommodate mechanical electrical and plumbing? What are the connections for vertical and lateral loading? Is it code ready? We will talk about all of it.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to learn what Cross Laminated Timber is, the history behind the framing system and be able to decide if the material use is applicable to their project work.
Participants will understand the use of 3D Design, Wood Fabrication/Connections and CNC Machines in the production of Cross Laminated Timber Systems, allowing them to create a more efficient design solution for a given building.
Participants will learn the major environmental advantages and current code issues surrounding the use of Cross Laminated Timber so they can avoid spending redundant research time.
Participants will learn how the Cross Laminated Timber panels are used in roofs, floors, and walls and which building applications make sense so they will be able to specify the product in future projects cost effectively.
