Historic Barn Tour
The Hancock Historical Museum will host its biennial Historic Barn Tour on Saturday, September 16th from 10a-4p. The self-guided tour will showcase six historic barns in southern Hancock County, several dating prior to the Civil War. Guests on the tour will learn the history of the barns and the farms they occupy. Many of the farms have been passed down in the same families for several generations. The barns display a wide array of timber-framing techniques and styles and have come to serve a variety of purposes. While some of the barns are being adaptively reused, others remain fully functional outbuildings on working farms. In addition to a wealth of historical information, guests will enjoy a day of activities promoting Hancock County heritage at each of the tour stops, including an antique machinery demonstrations, quilt show, local food vendors, and live music. In 2015, more than 800 people attended the Historic Barn Tour. The event was recently recognized by the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office as one of the best preservation awareness programs in the state. Representatives from the nonprofit organization, Friends of Ohio Barns will be on hand at this year's tour to discuss additional preservation efforts across the state.
Tickets to the Historic Barn Tour are available presale for $10 at the Hancock Historical Museum and the following sponsor locations: Reineke Ford, Legacy Farmers Cooperative, Citizen's National Bank in Findlay and Bluffton, Ag Credit in Findlay, Findlay Implement, Findlay-Hancock County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Redline Equipment in Ottawa. The tour is also generously sponsored by the Hancock County Farm Bureau and Advanced Drainage Systems. Tickets will be available the day of the tour for $10 for Hancock Historical Museum members and $15 for nonmembers. Children 16 & under are free.
