Free Speech Versus Hate Speech
Join Together We Will, Northern Arizona for an evening of art and discussion as we look into the line between free speech and hate speech. Proceeds to benefit the ACLU of Arizona.
The event includes:
--Panel discussion and sharing by NAU Professors targeted by alt-right and white supremacists.
--Theatrical performance by some of Flagstaff's most acclaimed actors.
--Discussion with artist and activist Karen Fiorito.
Karen Fiorito is a vegan artist residing in Santa Monica, CA. Fiorito received her M.F.A. in Printmaking from Arizona State University and her B.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Pennsylvania. She is the Exhibitions Chair for the Los Angeles Printmaking Society and President of Buddha Cat Press, a printmaking studio and publishing company. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally in over 100 exhibitions and featured in major publications such as Art in America, the Huffington Post, the L.A. Weekly and the Seattle Weekly. Her work has also been featured in books, such as American Women Artists in Wartime, Paper Politics: Socially Engaged Printmaking Today and The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes. She has been interviewed on television as well as radio stations KPFK and KBPK. She received a Change, Inc. Grant from Robert Rauchenberg, a Puffin Foundation Grant, a Pollination Project Grant, A Well Fed World Grant and a LUSH Charity Pot Grant for her public art projects. Her current public art project, Got Drought? has been touring California from 2015 - 2017 (www.gotdrought.com). Additionally, she is also noted for her controversial Trumpocalypse Billboard in downtown Phoenix (2017)
