Note: This is not only a book event, but an opportunity for every individual who feels an inner tug of respect or empathy for Bradley Manning to let him know he's not alone.  Learn the authentic truth of what he did, and why, and his ensuing lousy plight. Then, if you have the pulse for it, put your name on a card of support for the man Glenn Greenwald deems, "a whistle-blower acting with the noblest of motives" and "a national hero similar to Daniel Ellsberg."  We'll do our best to put it in Bradley's hands  as something like a Valentine.     Bob Baldock, KPFA Events Producer

Daniel Ellsberg says, "The commander-in-chief, President Obama, gave Manning 'verdict first, trial later.' He said Manning had broken the law, before even the prosecution case had been heard, let alone the defense case. He said he was guiltyThat alone is virtually a directed verdict. It's unlawful command influence on the subordinate officers, who will be carrying out both this decision, and later in the trial. The court martial should be out for that reason alone. "

Truth and Consequences probes not just the life and global impact of Bradley Manning, the U.S. Army private accused of leaking classified information to Wikileaks, but also the court martial proceedings begun in 2012 against him.

"Mitchell and Gosztola have provided, from the start, some of the most important coverage of Wikileaks and Bradley Manning. They have shined a bright light on Manning's courageous whistle-blowing and often brutal incarceration  and now in this timely and vital book they raise many serious questions surrounding all of that, and the new legal maneuvers against him."  Daniel Ellsberg

Kevin Gosztola is co-author of the book Truth and Consequences: The US vs. Bradley Manning and a writer for Firedoglake.com. He regularly covers WikiLeaks, whistleblowing, the US drone program, the surveillance state and various civil liberties issues. He has been regularly traveling to Fort Meade in Maryland to cover the legal proceedings against Manning and has appeared on "Democracy Now!", "The Young Turks" on Current TV, HuffPost Live, FAIR's "CounterSpin" radio program, Free Speech Radio News, and others.

Daniel Ellsberg, the former U.S. military analyst who secretly released the Pentagon Papers, is the author of Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers. He was deemed "The Most Dangerous Man in America" in the outstanding 2009 documentary film by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith.

Patricia Marx Ellsberg, Daniel's wife, was a nationally syndicated reporter for public radio and an opponent of the Vietnam War when she first dated Ellsberg, who was working at the Pentagon, in 1965. Patricia is a social-change advocate with decades of experience in the peace and energy movements. She often speaks with her husband at anti-war and anti-nuclear events. A practicing Buddhist, she teaches and writes on the subject.
