From Sun to Watts: A 32 Year Perspective on Using Sunlight to Generate Electricity
While many an energy geek would tell you that solar is sexy, even when awkwardly jutting off a roofline, not everyone would agree. Photovoltaic installations often cause architects to quietly weep and neighbors to loudly curse. Since no one should have to choose between tears and cursing and energy efficiency, people like John Ewan came to the rescue, allowing a happy intersection of aesthetics and energy production. Many people are confused by solar photovoltaics, commonly referred to as "PV." So come to see and hear the founder and owner of Pacific Energy Company answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the subject: "How do the panels make electricity?" "How long do they last?" "What are micro-inverters?" "How do I know how much solar energy is being produced?" "Would it be cost effective for me?" And, "Where should I start?" John will also review the changes & evolution that have taken place in the photovoltaic industry over the past 32 years. He will talk about the role solar electric should play in our energy future, given aging and security issues related to our current electrical grid system, and people's concerns about climate change. Are industrial systems like those being built in the Carrizo Plains needed or necessary? How can the homeowner, small business owner, or non-profit get involved and impact our energy mix? John will talk about system siting, functionality, degradation and life expectancy of solar energy systems. The event promises to be educational, light, and full of give and take discussion. Wednesday, February 13 2 pm - 4pm Pacific Energy Company 2121 Santa Barbara St. San Luis Obispo Cal Poly graduate John Ewan is Founder and owner of Pacific Energy Company and a Certified Energy Analyst and Solar Electric System component selection and integration specialist. With over 30 years of experience in the Photovoltaic Industry, John is an essential LEED team member for evaluating and specifying renewable energy systems. John also served as a Councilman for the City of San Luis Obispo
