Hot Club of Saratoga with Giacomo Smith and Eddie Barbash
Join us for our 3rd annual Hot Club/Giacomo musical collaboration!
Clarinetist Giacomo Smith, a native Saratogian, returns home from across the pond for what is becoming an annual musical event. Many of you may remember the past 2 years' events at Spring St. Gallery with Hot Club of Saratoga and Giacomo to enthusiastic capacity audiences. If you enjoyed these events, you wont want to miss this one.
Giacomo Smith (clarinet) and Eddie Barbash (saxophone) will be joined by bassist Bobby Kendall for a set of "Jazz Grass", a new take on a mix of jazz, bluegrass and American roots music. Giacomo and Eddy will also join Hot Club of Saratoga for another set, this one from Hot Club's repertoire.
GIACOMO SMITH
Since growing up in Saratoga Springs, Giacomo has called London his home for years where he is now a full time musician. When you don't find him at his home club, London's "Kansas Smitty's", with his group of the same name, you may find him playing elsewhere around London. He has been a regular at Le QuecumBar - Hot Club of London, London's premier gypsy swing club, where he has played with London's and Europe's top players. In his time in the UK, he has performed at London's major jazz venues, (Ronnie Scott's, 606 Club, Vortex), the Hackney Empire, Waterloo Vaults, and the Royal Albert Hall Elgar Room.
EDDIE BARBASH
Eddie Barbash plays American roots music on alto saxophone. He is a founding member of Jon Batiste Stay Human, the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He has performed with stars in almost every genre: jazz with Wynton Marsalis, classical with Yo-Yo Ma, rock with Lenny Kravitz, country with Vince Gill, funk with Parliament, He brings his horn and sensibility to Texas and Appalachian fiddle tunes, bluegrass, old time, R&B, soul, and classic New Orleans.
BOBBY KENDALL
Bobby Kendall is a highly sought after bassist throughout the Saratoga/Capital Region. He has shared the stage with jazz musicians like Jimmy Cobb, Louis Hayes, Ralph Lalama, Mark Vinci, Joshua Redman, Mark Taylor, Pete Zimmer, Spike Wilner, Cyrille-Amiee and Dylan Cantebury. He has also performed at the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois,France. While there, he played and recorded with great gypsy jazz guitarists like Sebastien Giniaux, Adrien Moingard and Mathieu Chatelain.
HOT CLUB OF SARATOGA
Hot Club of Saratoga, Saratoga/Capital Region's premier gypsy swing ensemble, was described this way by Caffe Lena: "These guys took Saratoga by storm a few years ago, suddenly showing up everywhere from sidewalk cafes to the fanciest of society balls. Everyone loves the way they reprise the repertoire of Django and Stephane's Quintette du Hot Club de France."
