Monty Alexander Trio

Pianist Monty Alexander is one of a kind. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Alexander mixes sophisticated jazz voicings with his down home Jamaican roots to create an interesting and flavorful musical gumbo. Originally influenced by Erroll Garner, Count Basie and the early boogie-woogie pianists, Alexander has fashioned an identifiable aural imprint of his own through decades of performances with American jazz greats Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, and Jamaican guitar legend Ernest Rangel, as well as his projects with the reggae rhythm team of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Alexander's passion for blending straight-ahead, hard swinging jazz and the undulating rhythms of the Caribbean is always a special treat for the ears.
