Sackville Festival of Early Music 2017
Concert #1 ¡Sacabuche!
Friday Sept 22, 2017, 7:30pm, Brunton Auditorium: ¡Sacabuche!, directed by Linda Pearse, will perform Hidden Treasures: The Austrian Habsburgs and the Kromí Archive featuring Vicki St. Pierre (contralto). The rich tradition of music-making in Austria and Czech lands during the seventeenth century combines an Italianate style with local music traditions and flavors. This unique program brings beautiful yet unknown and lesser-known works housed in the archives of the Kromí library in the Czech Republic to the stage.
Concert #2 I Furiosi
Saturday Sept 23, 2017, 7:30pm, Brunton Auditorium: Toronto ensemble, I Furiosi will perform the programme, Introduction to the Body. Everyone has a favourite body part if not their own, then someone elses. The concert starts at the top, and works its way down as they celebrate the various naughty and not-so-naughty bits.
Concert #3 The Toronto Consort
Sunday, Sept 24, 2017, 3pm, Brunton Auditorium: The Toronto Consort, under the direction of David Fallis, will perform Shakespeares Songbook in Sackville Sun Sept 24 @ 3pm. If music be the food of love, play on! So say we all, but just what music did Shakespeare have in mind when he penned those famous lines? The Toronto Consort, Canadas leading virtuosi of English Renaissance music, has pored over Shakespeares works to find many magical points where early music and the worlds greatest writer meet. With everyone from movie stars (Cate Blanchett) to rock stars (Sting) showing interest in Elizabethan England, this program opens a popular world to contemporary audiences. This fully scripted show features dances, fantasias and vocal works, performed with lute, viola da gamba, recorders, harpsichord, hurdy-gurdy, percussion and voices.
