Ballet Tucson - BT2 Performance 2018
Ballet Tucson's exceptional youth company (BT2) presents its end-of-season concert.
The highlight of the program is "Swan Lake - Act II" faithfully staged by Assistant Artistic Director Chieko Imada. 15-year old Emma VanPeenen dances the role of Odette, Queen of the Swans. Ballet Tucson Principal Dancer Mauricio Vergara appears as her love-struck Prince Siegfried. The corps de ballet of swan maidens is made up of BT2 members ages 12-18. This historic "ballet blanc" is presented in the romantic 19th Century style with the iconic music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
"Back to Bach" is a brand new neo-classical ballet created by Ballet Tucson Instructor and Choreographer Michelle Alexander. Inspired by visions of a spring garden, it features the full company and is energetically danced to four of Johann Sebastian Bachs string masterpieces.
Finishing the program is "Bits & Pieces." This light-hearted work is a theater dance style offering. Picture children in the attic on a rainy day, rummaging through old trunks and clothing racks, playing with vintage clothes and hats! Suddenly, the audience is transported back to period vignettes depicting social dances from the 1920s to 1950s. The ballet culminates in a top hat, bow tie, and cane finale. Original choreography is by Founding Artistic Director Mary Beth Cabana and former Principal Dancer Deanna Doncsecz.
