THE CONCEPT OF REMAINDERS - A World Premiere by Richard Martin Hirsch
The Production Company is honored to present the world premiere of highly acclaimed Los Angeles playwright Richard Martin Hirschs brilliant new relationship comedy The Concept of Remainders. This production is directed by the amazing Mark L. Taylor and produced by August Viverito and T L Kolman for The Production Company.
The Concept of Remainders is a fresh new comic contemplation on morality, mortality, sex, and how life-choices can lead to surprising results. Mac and Mary -- a contemporary, relatively conservative middle-aged couple -- react to the unexciting state of their 15-year marriage by creating an agreement that allows either of them -- for a period of ten days -- to have sex with partners outside their bond. The plan seems workable in theory, but relationships (casual or otherwise) are not easy and unanticipated complications quickly arise. Helping them navigate this fleeting world of lust and high hopes are their friends Elliot and his new, precocious young trophy wife, Sophie. And then theres that adventurous barmaid named Faith. Excitement and danger loom around every corner, and it would seem no corner is to be left un-turned. Can an arrangement like this actually work? Is it just a fantasy? Or are there, perhaps, much deeper issues at play?
Playwright Richard Martin Hirsch has written over two dozen plays for the stage. In April 2006 his full length drama, The Quality of Light, was named Critics Choice in the Los Angeles Times, Backstage West and LA Weekly and resulted in Richard being nominated for an Ovation Award for Best World Premiere Play. Richard followed that success wit two highly-acclaimed dramas; Atonement and The Monkey Jar which both received numerous Critics Pick designations.
The multi-talented Marl L. Taylor who directed the hit premiere of Last Call at Moby Dicks at the McCadden Theater as well as the critically heralded premiere productions of Sunset Park and Moment In The Sun for the Inkwell Theater guides an amazing celebrity-status cast as director for this production. As an actor, Mark earned numerous appearances on television and in films. Everything from Mash to Seinfeld & Boston Legal to The West Wing, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids to Arachnophobia.
