This year our concert will be A Night of Roots Music, Featuring Darol Anger, Emy Phelps and the Rain City Ramblers. Darol Anger is a world-renowned fiddler, composer, producer, and professor at the Berklee College who combines his musical talents with Emy Phelps riveting singing and songwriting. Their work instills fresh perspectives on deep American roots traditions while diving to the deepest of human emotions.
The Rain City Ramblers from Seattle, WA also combine roots music and original song craft while ripping up fiddle tunes, setting down a groovy two-step, or rendering haunting versions of folk ballads.
In addition to this amazing musical line-up, we will also be holding our annual Silent Auction which brings together exciting bidding items such as vacation stays at the scenic Greensprings Inn, rafting trips, concerts, plays and a variety of packages that include local artists and craftspeople.
The concert and auction on August 27th is the biggest fundraiser for Modern Roots Foundation. Last year we had an amazing turnout that helped to fund a significant number of students as they study with local music instructors. Students gain confidence, discipline, and, above all, a love for playing American Roots music, from guitar and fiddle, to bass and banjo. During 2016-17 Modern Roots Foundation provided over 2,000 hours of instructional time to 75+ students, doubling what we were able to offer the previous year. All of our fundraising translates directly into music scholarships for kids in our Southern Oregon region.
