Minor Moon is the songwriting project of Sam Cantor, a musician based in Chicago, IL. Minor Moons latest effort is a 5 song EP titled What Our Enemies Know. Inspired in large part by the experience of uprooting from New England to the Midwest, Cantors newest handful of songs explore the tension between being haunted and embattled by ghosts and enemies, both real and imagined, while simultaneously affirming the lightness, playfulness and love required to overcome these universal challenges. Across the EP, the tracks reverberate within and reflect upon one another, and Cantors songwriting demonstrates both increased discipline and experimentation compared to previous releases. Meanwhile, the performances captured during these recording sessions are as raw and improvisational as they are measured and intentional. In addition to Cantor on guitar and vocals, What Our Enemies Know showcases Minor Moons most cohesive and consistent lineup to date featuring Chicago-based musicians Nathan Bojko on drums, Michael Downing on bass and vocals, and Colin Drozdoff on keyboards.
Inspired by the rooted innovativeness of contemporary artists like Wilco, Grizzly Bear, Radiohead, Bon Iver, and Gillian Welch as well as the sound and craft of older folk and folk rock musicians like Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and Van Morrison, Minor Moons soulful, complex, americana-esque sound strikes a unique balance between a vintage and modern sound palate, mysterious and revelatory lyrics, and a contemplative and emphatic spirit.
AURORA BIRCH Chicago native and Berklee College of Music graduate Aurora Birch is a folk-rock singer/songwriter based in the greater Boston area. She specializes in heartfelt, contemplative songwriting, weaving purposefully through the spectrum of nonsense and lucidity, of infinite and infinitesimal, of delicately fanciful and brutally blunt.
Commanding tradition while still proving herself an innovator, Auroras music sounds like the thesis statement of a fundamental force. Drawing upon old time, folk, and a childhood infused with blues and rock n roll, she crafts complex, gritty guitar arrangements, evincing her background in arranging and orchestration and deftly framing her exfoliating voice.
As a solo performer, Aurora composes remarkably captivating moments that extend to every seat in the house. With a perfect pairing of singer and song, she exudes an undeniable magnetism on stage.
In August of 2016, Aurora embarked on her first tour in Alaska with singer/songwriter Emily Anderson. Presently, she lives in Somerville, MA, and performs frequently in the greater Boston area. In December of 2016 Aurora was awarded a grant from the Iguana Music Fund to assist her in recording her first full length album, due out in summer of 2017.
THE WOLFF SISTERS Hailing from the cobble stone streets of Boston, The Wolff Sisters blend rock, blues, and roots music into their own unique sound. Their gritty songs draw from adventures all over New England that shaped their lives. The three sisters, Rebecca, Rachael, and Kat, create haunting harmonies that only siblings can manage to do. Drawing inspiration from bands like The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, and Jackson Browne, The Wolff Sisters bring a refreshing sound and soul to the music scene. Their live performances are honest and raw, leaving you with their songs stuck in your head long after the show is over.
