SOLO SUNDAYS 9/10/17 Xiaojuan Shu, Laura Hedli, Wayne Harris
.

XIAOJUAN SHU
-------------------------------------
Becoming a Filial Daughter

In a torrent of tears, Xiao apologized to her parents for being such an ungrateful and disrespectful daughter. She apologized to her father for yelling at him when he rode his bike to her boarding school when bringing her the dishes her mother made. She apologized to her mother for treating her with disrespect in so many instances. As she apologized, her parents cried. There was one final step Xiao had to take.

LAURA HEDLI
------------------------------------
too old to be this young

He scrambles eggs. She prepares coffee. They take their places at the table, morning domesticity on the Upper East Side. Except that it's Saturday and their boss makes three -- this is her apartment. They are there on her time. Laura's helping her write her book;  he's helping her get in shape. Their boss has no idea he is seeing Laura on the side: "When are you getting a girlfriend?" she asks him. Laura's leg touches his under the table and she shoots him a look. He wants her silence. Her boss wants her compliance. Both want her company. Laura's losing control. How much longer can she keep it together?

WAYNE HARRIS
------------------------------------
Into Palestine

On February 21, 2013, Arafay Jadarat, a Palestinian demonstrator, died while in Israeli custody. At the time, Wayne was flying across the Atlantic on a U.S. State Department sponsored trip to Jerusalem to perform a story about Martin Luther King for Palestinian children. On the plane, he meets a little old Jewish woman from Long Island who tells him "Young man, nothing will ever happen over there until those Arabs love their children more than they hate the Jews. I always say that."
