NJW Presents Jonathan Wires
On Friday, Sept 1 at 8pm the Nashville Jazz Workshop presents Snap on 2&4 with bassist Jonathan Wires. A talented performer and composer, Jonathan has appeared many times on stage at the Workshop's Jazz Cave. The September 1 event will be his first appearance there as a leader and is expected to feature many of his outstanding compositions.
Jonathan Wires is a performing bassist, composer, and educator. After earning a BA in Music Performance from the University of Memphis, he pursued a Master's at Middle Tennessee State University. He now teaches a wide array of classes at MTSU and Nashville State Community College, including Introduction to Music, Jazz Bass, Jazz Composition, Improvisation, and Jazz Combo Ensemble. He has served on the faculty of the Vermont Jazz Institute and the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and teaches regularly at the Workshop's Summer Jazz Camp.
Jonathan has recorded on 30+ records in a variety of musical settings and contributed to the soundtrack of Craig Brewers 2007 film "Black Snake Moan. In addition to touring Europe and China, Jonathan has performed with a variety of other artists, including Frank Lowe, Mike Rojas, Jim White, Pat Bergeson, Reggie Thomas, Annie Sellick, Billy Bang, Bill Cunliffe, Michael Marcus, Jesus Santandreu, Don Aliquo, Alvin Fielder, Michael Jefry Stevens, and Jeff Coffin. In 2016 Jonathan released Weaving, his first recording as a composer and performer, for Ear Up Records. The project was produced by and features the Grammy-nominated Jeff Coffin.
Jonathan will be joined by a stellar ensemble: Marcus Finnie - drums, Evan Cobb - winds, Rahsaan Barber - winds and Matt Endahl - piano.
There will be two sets beginning at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop. Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug 21 at 10am, and are $25 ($15 for high school and college students). Advance purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are available online from brownpapertickets.com and are also available by phone at 800-838-3006 24/7 or 615-242-5299 during business hours.
Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones. Audio and video recording is prohibited. Ticket sales are final.
