This visually stunning movie is especially engaging for children. It follows the story of a young boy interested in butterflies. He pursues his passion, eventually becoming a scientist who solves a major mystery of the natural world. The film explores not only the incredible transformation of monarch caterpillar to butterfly, but also the unbelievable migration the butterflies take all the way to Mexico.
In 3D the butterflies practically tickle your nose!
The presentation will open with a brief introduction from the organizer, Friends of Lake Wingra. We are a local non-profit with the goal of improving the health of Madison's wildest lake, along with the neighborhoods around it. We recently worked with the City of Madison on a Watershed Management Plan which sets out long-term, measurable goals for protecting the lake. And, by protecting the lake, we're also working to protect important habitat for species like the monarch. The proceeds from this movie will help Friends of Lake Wingra do more community outreach and education, as well as support scientific studies on the needs of our lovely lake.
After the show, you'll have an opportunity to purchase live monarchs, equipment for raising monarchs, and milkweed plants. Cash or checks accepted.
