Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 9th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
This months show, which takes place on Thursday, August 17, features Bob McIntyre, Carla Clayy, Kat Evasco, Ian Williams, and Lisa Geduldig.
Bob McIntyre is a San Francisco based waiter, comic, and occasional actor who is currently binge watching his recently purchased 38-disc, 325-episode Mary Hartman Mary Hartman box set. He currently sees everything in shades of avocado green, mustard yellow and burnt orange with a waxy yellow buildup. He is single.
Carla Clayy is a native San Franciscan who has spent the last several years making people laugh all over the country. She won the Marshall's Women in Comedy Competition in 2001 and was awarded a guest spot at its Marin County show, sharing the stage with Paula Poundstone, Joy Behar, and Rene Hicks. Carla is a regular at The Punchline, Cobb's, and comedy clubs in such hotspots as Modesto and Chico and shared the stage with Robin Williams.
Kat Evasco is writer, stand up comedian, and performance artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is best known for her touring autobiographical one-woman show, Mommy Queerest, co-written and directed by John Caldon. Her current projects include directing a new solo show called Prieto written and performed by nationally acclaimed poet, Yosimar Reyes; director for Locus of Control written and performed by Jason Bayani; co-lead artist of the Resilience Archives, a collection of memories and historical moments centered on the LGBTQ Asian American Pacific Islander community created by Mia Nakano. Evasco currently serves as the Chief Dream Director at The Future Project and as the Artistic Director of Guerrilla Rep. She is a recipient of the Creative Capacity Fund Quick Grant, NextGen Art Professional Development Grant, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant and holds a BA in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University.
Ian Williams began performing in comedy clubs in the Midwest after leaving graduate school in 1984. He has appeared on MTV, A&E, Star Search, and Showtime. Williams has lived in San Francisco for more than two decades and appears at Bay Area clubs including Cobb's and The Punchline. He also has worked as a teacher while partnering with his spouse to run a family that has stayed in operation since 1995.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (celebrating its 25th Anniversary this December!); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
Must be over 21 as it's a bar. Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
