The Fugitive - Last 2 Episodes (TV Show)
August 29, 1967the day the running stopped! With this closing voice over narration by William Conrad, one of the most watched TV series of the 1960s came to a dramatic and record setting end.
The Fugitive, starring David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble, debuted on ABC in September, 1963. Kimble was convicted and sentenced to die for the murder of his wife; but he professed his innocence, insisting that it was committed by a one-armed man. When the train carrying him and his keeper, Lt. Gerard, derailed, Kimble was able to escape. It was the beginning of a four-year long search for the real killer with the determined Gerard always just one step behind.
Tired of the grind of shooting a weekly series, Janssen asked to end the show. What the writers came up with would hold the entire countrys attention for weeks on end.
Simply titled THE JUDGMENT the final two episodes brought closure to Kimbles search for truth and justice, but not without a very surprising twist.
Oddly, the last two segments would air on August 22 and 29, 1967. But being at the end of summer made no difference. On that last Tuesday in August, a record 70 percent of the available TV households in America would tune in to watch the climax, far surpassing the numbers set by the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show three years before.
On Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2pm nearly 50 years to the day the Plaza Playhouse Theater will screen the final two episodes of The Fugitive, featuring a Q&A with Sam Taylor, a member of the theater board and a longtime fan of the series, and Chris Soldo, who has done extensive research on the show. They will share their inside stories and knowledge about the making of the series and the actors who appeared in it with host Peter Bie.
Many viewers who watched the show in its final season did so on black and white TVs, most unaware that it was actually in color (the first three seasons had been shot in black and white). This will be a treat for people who originally watched the show and will now get to see these two episodes in glorious color and on the big screen, said Bie, who has been curating film and TV programming for the Plaza. Plus, most folks dont recall exactly how Kimble was exonerated; its part of the intrigue of the show, noted Bie.
Tickets for The Fugitive (TV show) screening are $7 and available on line or at the theater box office one hour prior to show time.
