Phoenix Film Festival Summer Showcase Pass
Our special summer event returns with a fresh batch of films to help you cool off as we inch closer towards the end of summer. This year's event will be held August 7 to 10 at the Harkins Scottsdale 101 Theatre. All screenings are at 7pm with all of the films featuring a post-film discussion hosted by members of the Phoenix Critics Circle. Purchase the Showcase Pass to see all four films.
This year's line-up includes...
Monday, August 7th at 7pm The Trip to Spain
Starring: Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon Synopsis: After jaunts through northern England and Italy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon embark on another deliciously deadpan culinary road trip. This time around, the guys head to Spain to sample the best of the country's gastronomic offerings in between rounds of their hilariously off-the-cuff banter. Over plates of pintxos and paella, the pair exchange barbs and their patented celebrity impressions, as well as more serious reflections on what it means to settle into middle age. As always, the locales are breathtaking, the cuisine to die for, and the humor delightfully devilish.
Tuesday, August 8th at 7pm
Lucky
Directed by John Carroll Lynch Starring: Harry Dean Stanton, David Lynch, Ron Livingston, Ed Begley Jr and Tom Skerritt
Synopsis: LUCKY follows the spiritual journey of a 90 year old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off the map desert town. Having out lived and out smoked all of his contemporaries, the fiercely independent Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment.
Acclaimed character actor John Carroll Lynch's directorial debut, LUCKY, is at once a love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton as well as a meditation on mortality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection.
Wednesday, August 9th at 7pm

Moving from his parents' Upper West Side apartment to the Lower East Side, he befriends his neighbor W.F. (Jeff Bridges), a shambling alcoholic writer who dispenses worldly wisdom alongside healthy shots of whiskey. Thomas' world begins to shift when he discovers that his long-married father (Pierce Brosnan) is having an affair with a seductive younger woman (Kate Beckinsale). Determined to break up the relationship, Thomas ends up sleeping with his father's mistress, launching a chain of events that will change everything he thinks he knows about himself and his family.
