Ballet Tucson's Winter Concert - Bernstein & Ballet (in collaboration with the 2018 Tucson Desert Song Festival)
"A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein" (world premiere) A celebration in song and dance honoring Bernstein's 100th birthday featuring selections from Mass, On the Waterfront, West Side Story and more. Chieko Imada and Mary Beth Cabana have teamed up to create original choreography that weaves together Mr. Bernstein's music in a contemporary and unique fashion. Guest vocal artists Cadie Jordan and David Margulis (alumni of the prestigious Ravinia's Steans Music Institute) will be accompanied by exceptional pianist Michael Dauphinais.
Divertimento in D (world premiere) Choreography: Daniel Precup The company's Ballet Master (Daniel Precup) premieres a new full company work complete with live chamber music by the Bel Canto Quintet led by Rose Todaro on stage as the company soars in response to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's iconic masterpiece.
Graduation Ball Choreography: after David Lichine (of the famed Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo) Set in a fashionable 1800's Viennese finishing school for girls, the headmistress invites cadets from a military academy to attend their graduation ball. Flirtations and mischief ensue in this charming, historic ballet with music by Johann Strauss II.
