A Fine Winter's Night, Christmas with the Heatons a Music in the Gallery Concert
Celebrate the holidays with Matt & Shannon Heatons "Fine Winter's Night," featuring original and traditional Irish music to brighten chilly winter days and warm long winter nights.
For Fine Winters Night, Matt and Shannon Heaton present a banquet of songs dating from the 12th to the 21st century with husband-and-wife harmonies and instrumental accompaniment on guitar, bouzouki, Irish flute. The concert features a mix of poignancy, jubilance and reflection with songs about Victorian winter romance, the nativity and the introspective nature of the solstice, sprinkled with beautiful airs and upbeat jigs and reels. The Heaton originals sound like timeless traditional classics and their renditions of centuries-old Irish ballads often have inventive modern twists that resonate with listeners. The Boston Irish Reporter summed it: "Bringing us songs both sacred and reverent, Shannon's voice is fresh and subtle like the first dusting of snow, while Matt's light and sure guitar accompaniment sets the pace for a joyful sleigh ride...[They] lead us beyond familiar old songs but they don't forsake them, either. Get those cookies into the oven and invite your loved ones to tea; Matt and Shannon have made music that reminds us of what the holidays are for." With engaging stage presence and masterfully-crafted music, Matt & Shannon Heaton offer Irish music from the heart. Shannon was named 2016 Massachusetts Cultural Council Traditional Artist Fellow. The Irish American News dubbed her Female Musician of the Year (2009) and Live Ireland nominated her Female Musician of the Year 2010 and 2011. Shes been compared to Alison Krauss and Altans Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh for her combination of vocal grace and instrumental prowess on Irish flute, whistles and accordion. Matt, on guitar and bouzouki, has received multiple Massachusetts Cultural Council Grants for his work. He holds a masters degree in classical guitar. Matt and Shannon are poised, passionate American performers with Irish roots and universal appeal. They move listeners with their love of traditional music and their sense of adventure and fun in exploring new directions and possibilities.
