Cayuga Chamber Orchestra: Chamber Music Series #8
Sunday, February 11, 2018 Unitarian Church, Ithaca / 4:00 PM
BAX: Quintet for Oboe and Strings ELGAR: Piano Quintet, Op 84
FOLLOW THE CCO MUSICIANS through the wonderfully rich world of chamber music. This intimate setting creates a musical experience far greater than the simple sum of the parts.
Composer from England move to the forefront in our third concert of the series as we present two impressive quintets by Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Arnold Bax. A string quartet plus oboe was a highly unusual combination at the time Bax wrote this work but his colorful writing makes this a winning combination.
For this season, we'll offer a special treat with receptions intended to complement the music. It will be a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with memorable music, regional wine and beer tastings, and fellow music lovers! For February 11th, the wine tastings and reception are provided by the CCO Board of Directors.
Chamber music is often described as bringing together the best of both worlds. It allows each individual player to have an artistic voice while also having the joy of collaborative music-making. This intimate setting creates a musical experience far greater than the simple sum of the parts. Since 1987, the CCO has proudly presented a concert series devoted entirely to chamber music and we hope you'll join us for these programs that celebrate music that moves us.
