1st Annual NESONA Short Play Festival
PLAYS: (1) "Sweetie's Confession" - Marlow Wyatt: A young executive suppresses her feelings about race in order to achieve her dream of wealth and status until she experiences a truth she can no longer ignore.
(2) "Dark Comedy" - Hassan Jamal: In the outer office of a legendary Hollywood producer, Paul Robeson and Lincoln Perry (aka Stepin Fetchit) wait to audition for the same role.
(3) "History Lesson" - Andrea Ross: A poetic journey through African-American history utilizing poetry, music and drama.
(4) "Pecans on 131st and Lenox" - Pauletta James: A pecan farmer from Coushatta, Louisiana drives over 1,400 miles to Harlem, New York, during the height of the Harlem Renaissance, to "visit" the woman who was once at his side and toiled in the pecan orchard with him. Can their love be rekindled?
(5) "Phone Booth" - George Corbin: An old man finds the phone booth where he receives an annual phone call from his estranged son is occupied by an aggressive homeless man.
(6) "House of Sticks" - Felix Racelis: A homeless shelter director escorts a major donor on a tour to seal the deal on a major gift until a homeless client upset her plans.
(7) "Nail Heads" - Melvin Ishmael Johnson: This play hits the nail on the head with the echoes of the voices of performers who has experienced what it is like to be one of the many homeless who lives on the street of Los Angeles at any given time.
