Art Deco Hollywood Boulevard Architecture Walking Tour
Join the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles to view the Art Deco delights that abound in Hollywood where the film industry took root and flourished, defining the glamour and modernity that influenced the world. The stars and moguls lived, worked, and played in an environment of architectural opulence, some of which survives to this day.
Hollywood Boulevard is a microcosm of one of the great "golden ages" of L.A. architecture: the post-World War I boom from which Art Deco emerged, interpreted locally by a host of master architects, including Stiles O. Clements, Leland Bryant, Frank Meline, and B. Marcus Priteca.
On this tour, you'll see famous Hollywood and Art Deco masterpieces such as the Egyptian Theatre, the home of the first Hollywood movie premiere, and the Max Factor building, where stars such as Joan Crawford and Rita Hayworth had their looks perfected with revolutionary cosmetic innovations. Along with grand palaces of commerce, youll see unsung beauties nestled on side streets that housed and continue to house a local businessman's dream. You might think you know Hollywood Boulevard, but we bet we've got some surprises for you!
The tour will begin in front of the Egyptian Theatre and end at the Pantages Theatre, exploring the neighborhood block by block, to see what the area was, what it is, and what it will be! This historic area has become increasingly attractive to developers, so we encourage you to experience Art Deco Hollywood today while you still can.
The maximum number of spots on the tour is 40. The group will be divided into two groups of 20.
Bring your cameras, sunhats, and sunscreen. This is a walking tour, so please wear comfortable shoes and sun protection.
