You Don't Have To Be Jewish... But It Couldn't Hurt!
Sunday, January 13 at 7:30pm
written and performed by Gary Gilson
Peter Moore, director; Buffy Sedlachek, dramaturg; Phil Aaron, music director
presented by the 2013 Minneapolis Jewish Humor Festival
Emmy award-winning journalist, writer and storyteller, Gary Gilson launches his second career with this Humor Festival performance, building on his celebrated ability to tell great stories. He grew up with a father who traveled with carnival midways and later operated bingo parlors, and with a mother whose family was filled with trailblazers on Broadway and in Hollywood. "I was surrounded with outrageously colorful characters," Gary says. "And after my many years in television in New York, Los Angeles and the Twin Cities . . . how could I NOT have terrific stories to tell?" Mixing memoir and humor to capture rich slices of Jewish and show-business life, Gary's stories both hilarious and touching are far more than his own. They celebrate our common humanity. This performance is supported by projected photos and by the gifted jazz pianist, Phil Aaron.
Recommended for ages 12 and up.
