Elizabeth Berg and Denise Norton Present: Flash Fiction and Food
This class will offer a talk on how to write short stories by Elizabeth Berg, who has published many novels and two collections of short stories. You will hear about how to create rich characters, what makes for good dialogue,some thoughts about plot, and how to put pen to paper and not look up! Our goal is for you to end up with a completed rough short story in one day. Here's how the day will go:
10am-noon Hear a mini-lecture on short story writing and do a few exercises. Coffee, tea, and pastry provided. 12 noon You'll be given a picnic lunch to take with you while you go and write your story--quickly!-- using the tips you've been given. 3 pm Return to share your story with the group 5 pm Cocktails, followed by a cooking class with the amazing Denise Norton, former owner of Flavour Cooking School.
Your dinner will include a lesson on the basics of grilling by local chef and cookbook author Denise Norton. She'll demonstrate the basics of grilling so you can return home with another skill from the day! Learn the anatomy of a grill, a few tried-and-true grilling tips, & how to prepare & grill chili rubbed flank steak with tomatillo sauce. Your full meal, prepared by Chef Denise, will also include: farmers market sweet corn gazpacho, quinoa with toasted pepitas, & banana pudding with toasted coconut. A delicious way to top off your writing day! 8pm Goodbye and thank you!
