The Mindful Art Show
The Mindful Art Show: Benefit for LGBTQ and POC Mental Health Awareness
Eva Carrillo is invested in spreading awareness about emotional health and confronting the cultural miseducation that keeps our mental lesions wide open. The Mindful Art Show offers a platform to LGBTQ/POC voices to use art and community as a means of acknowledging and healing our individual and collective wounds.
Those whose identities fall within and at the intersections of POC and LGBTQ are disproportionately affected by the social and cultural stigma surrounding mental health. Among POC especially, mental health is often misconceived as a non-issue, yet our emotional stability is perpetually under the threat of deportation, racism, sexism, homophobia, death, war, aggression.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SURVIVE THAT ON YOUR OWN. YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO COME OUT OF THAT 100%. YOU ARE HUMAN.
Come listen, share, and support, as there will be poetry, information, and opportunity to contribute to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
This event is about the public working together to erase stigmas and to ensure that the LGBTQ and POC communities live healthy and productive lives, through artistic expression. We will have performers of different backgrounds, coming on stage to play something, or read two pieces.
Admission will be 10 dollars. Half of the profits will go to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the other half will go to the Bowery Poetry Club.
