September 29-October 8, 2017: A Soviet negotiator who's been too long at the table and a younger American too new to the game go for "A Walk in the Woods." Lee Blessing's tale of how superpower negotiations sometimes work - and often fail - was nominated for a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize. Renee Sevier-Monsey directs.
November 10-19, 2017: Ryan Foizey directs Marie Jones's "Stones in His Pockets." A film company takes over a village in Ireland and all the villagers are extras. But the real drama is not the one played in front of the cameras. It's funny, it's sad and it's very, very Irish.
February 9-18, 2018: Henrietta Leavitt wanted to touch the stars. But her employer, the Harvard Observatory, would not even let her touch the telescope - not because she was unqualified, but because she was a woman. So, she changed the history of astronomy on her own. Ellie Schwetye directs Lauren Gunderson's inspiring true story, "Silent Sky."
April 6-15, 2018: Hansol Jung's "Cardboard Piano" takes us to northern Uganda. A missionary's daughter and a local teenage girl exchange secret wedding vows but cannot escape the reach of the encroaching civil war. This powerful drama examines violence and the struggle to rebuild in its wake, as well as the limits of the human capacity for love and forgiveness. Linda Kennedy directs the St. Louis premiere of this 2016 Humana Festival hit.
