With the price of groceries rising every day, what is a simple housewife like Antonia to do? Join a group of protesting women and stuff food and other goods in her clothing, of course! Antonia enlists the aid of her best friend and trusted side-kick Margherita to hide the loot by pretending to be pregnant. Lies and charades begin a wild and energetic comedy of errors. Laugh out loud as these clever women attempt to foil their well-meaning, but suspicious husbands. We Wont Pay! We Wont Pay! is I Love Lucy meets The Honeymooners meets Commedia dellArte. While reveling in slapstick, the play also mines for comedy in the truth of the basic human need to survive and feed a family in a world where both government and business conspire against the working class.
We Wont Pay! We Wont Pay! is directed by Candid Theatres Artistic Director Justin Kirkeberg, and features Shana Eisenberg and Jackie Olson as the mischievous wives Antonia and Margherita, while David Wasserman and Corey DiNardo play the dimwitted and law-abiding husbands (as well as various other roles).
