VIP "Roaring 20's" Costume Party Introducing 2017-2018 Season
BELLEVUE, WA Gangsters, Lovers and Verdi! Friday night  VIP "Roaring 20's" costume party announcing the CITY OPERA BALLET  2017-2018 season in Bellevue's finest performance hall. Refreshed by delicious food and drink, party guests will experience not only a preview of the rarely seen stunning ballet, La Sylphide (coming in March 2018) but also the COB building of Verdi's La Traviata (set in the 1920's) coming in August 2018. In addition, two all new ballets on the horizon, including Jennifer Porter's The Great Gatsby, will show the very first sneak peek of what's being built from scratch for 2019! Previews are all to live music under the sure hand of the company's long-time music director and conductor, Philip Tschopp. All costumes are created by Tina Evans, celebrating her 20th year with the company!

For La Traviata, the  American 1920s was chosen by guest director, Russell Wustenberg,  to bring  special charm and relevance  to his first full-length opera.  We chose to set our Traviata in a 1920s Speakeasy, a place and time when Prohibition forced people from all levels of society into one place. The Haves delighted in the risk of sitting next to the Have-Nots, in a shared adventure of sipping illegal liquor provided by an industry of opportunists from all walks of life.  In the middle are the entertainers, the voyeurs, the musicians and their friends. This show will resonate immediately and easily with modern audiences, yet still retain its classic sensibility.. (The McGill Savoy Society, Opera 5, McGill Opera).  The full production will be performed with Orchestra Bellevue on August 24th and 26th  2018 at The Theatre at Meydenbauer Center.

On March 24 - 25, 2018 Ballet Bellevue with Orchestra Bellevue presents the full ballet of  La Sylphide staged by Ballet Bellevue ballerina, Christina Stockdale, and ballet master Kyle Johnson to the classic original music of Jean-Madeleine Schneitzhoeffer.

Wrapped in some of the most beautiful music ever to grace the stage in downtown Bellevue,  the August 25, 2017 VIP  Preview Party for La Traviata and La Sylphide is not to be missed!
