Voices in Action: Community Outreach Showcase & Fundraiser
Join TMI Project for a night of unforgettable true storytelling by participants in workshops offered through its Community Outreach Initiative.
Voices in Action will feature performances by a participant from TMI Projects #blackstoriesmatter program; a student from its initiative with the Kingston High School football team and A Call to Men; a young woman from SUNY New Paltz who participated in Our Bodies Talk Back, a workshop and performance focused on womens body image, objectification and sexual assault; and a participant from TMI Projects workshop at the Mental Health Association of Ulster County. They will all be performing true monologues. Honoree Tony Porter will be given an award for his groundbreaking, internationally recognized work aimed at preventing violence against women as well as his partnership with TMI Project and the Kingston High School Football Team. Tony Porter is a leading voice on male socialization and his 2010 TED Talk, seen by over 2 million viewers, has been named by GQ Magazine as one of the Top 10 TED Talks Every Man Should See. This year TMI Project will also be recognizing four local Hudson Valley leaders and activists as TMI Project Agents of Change: Jeramie Collins, former head coach of the Kingston High School Football team; Elise Gold, co-founder of The Maya Gold Foundation; Callie Jayne, lead organizer for Citizen Action of New York; and Denise Ranaghan, director of adult wellness services at Mental Health Association of Ulster County.
Voices in Action will be held at 7pm in the theater at the back of BSP Lounge, a nightclub in the historic Stockade district. There will be a pre-show reception with light fare and a cash bar at 7pm with Tony Porter, our local honorees, TMI Project staff and the performers followed by the performance and award ceremony at 7:30pm. Tickets for the show are $75 in advance or $100 at the door.
All proceeds raised from ticket sales will be used to advance the Community Outreach Initiative of TMI Project, a non-profit organization offering transformative memoir workshops and performances that invite storytellers and audience members to explore new perspectives.
About TMI Project's Community Outreach Initiative Through this program TMI Project, a Hudson Valley non-profit, brings distinct versions of its transformational memoir writing workshops to incarcerated and at-risk teens, cancer patients, survivors of domestic violence, military veterans, LBGTQ teens, and other populations that don't often get to tell their stories or be heard.
