"KITCHEN" - a meal and remedies project with the People's Kitchen Collective
With KITCHEN, we will ask 200 participants for remedies for everything from stomach aches to white supremacy. This meal is the second in our year-long West Oakland community art project From the FARM, to the KITCHEN, to the TABLE, to the STREET

KITCHEN intentionally blurs the boundaries between mind and body, metaphor and medicine. The relationship of micro-aggressions with PTSD in communities of color is well documented. Our recipes for survival are not. In the face of rampant racism and gentrification, there is a distinct and urgent need to lift up our own remedies for healing.

Participants in KITCHEN are welcomed into the Peoples Apothecary, a creatively-interpreted installation of hundreds of home remedies we gathered over the past year. Then, they will be invited to add their own remedy to the collection and share it with others in the space. There will be a poetic invocation, thematic music, and a deeply researched meal inspired by the diverse kitchens of Oakland. It is our goal that participants feel deeper connection to each other and their ancestral kitchen wisdom while sharing tangible skills and remedies to heal, fortify and survive.

Throughout the event, participants will get a chance to eat and taste various remedies from the backgrounds of the PKC Chefs and our collaborators.

Music will be curated and presented by La Pelanga Collective.

Our Chef Collaborator for this meal is Chef Nora Dunning from Drip Line

This is an day time event from 4-6pm and will be interactive and family friendly.

First select how many tickets you would like ("Register your Attendance" then input how much of a donation you would like to make for the total number of tickets ("Pay What You Can Donation").

Our event is Pay-What-You-Can and nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
Our suggested donation per person for this event is $35. A higher donation ($50/person) means that you can help support someone else attending this event. A donation of $100 or more per ticket means that you are helping grow this entire meal series!

See you on August 19th at ALENA!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the second of a four-meal series in West Oakland investigating healing and resistance From the Farm, To the Kitchen, To the Table, To the Street. Held over the course of a year, from Spring 2017 to Spring 2018, we invite you to consider the farm, kitchen, table, and street, as sites of knowledge production, storytelling, and resilience.

The "From the Farm to the Table to the Kitchen to the Streets" meal series is a project of the Peoples Kitchen Collective in collaboration with AIR-SF with generous support provided in part by the Kenneth Rainin Foundation and will require additional financial support from our community.
