The Gershwins in Hollywood
Co-produced with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra
Well never know what glorious music George Gershwin might have composed had he not died suddenly of a brain tumor at the age of 38. What we do know is that in 1937, he and his lyricist-brother, Ira, left New York for Hollywood. There they penned some of the best popular songs of the decade including They Cant Take That Away From Me and Lets Call the Whole Thing Off for classic movie musicals starring (among others) Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This is the story of Georges last years, capped by the brothers iconic Love Is Here to Stay. Yes, it is.
