18 Reasons Sunday February 3, 7-9PM, Ticketed $25 for 18 Reasons members; $35 for the general public Dinner Conversation: Fair Share CSF
Join 18 Reasons and Fair Share founders Jalal Elhayek and Jessica Lattif for a Dungeness Crab dinner and conversations about sustainable fishing.
Launched in September, Fair Share Community Supported Fisheries offers dockside to doorstep delivery of local & sustainable seafood. By applying the community supported agriculture model to the fishing industry, they have joined a movement that is re-imagining the seafood supply chain in which sustainability and profit are not mutually exclusive. Fair Share supports local fishing communities by valuing their roles as stewards of the ocean, and by connecting them with appreciative, conscientious consumers.
Here's what we will be talking about:
What is a CSF, how it works and what its goals are Demystifying the global seafood supply chain (insofar as currently possible!) Issues with industrial fishing and aquaculture The alternatives to industrial seafood How seafood fits into the locavore picture Challenges faced (and met) by small-scale, local fishing communities The role of CSFs - in their various forms - in supporting local fishing economies in meeting these challenges.
