Bach's Lunch 'n' Listen 2017-2018 Season
Newton-Conover Auditorium is home to the popular lunchtime concert series, Bach's Lunch 'n' Listen. Tickets are $15, which includes lunch and an exciting performance! These performances are known to sell out so book your tickets well in advance. Tickets go on sale beginning August 1st!
Members may purchase tickets through the Newton-Conover Auditorium office.
September 15: Jorge Rodriguez Ochoa, Violin We are excited to have back Jorge Ochoa after an amazing performance this last season with Grace Wepner-Ludtke. Jorge started his musical studies at the age of 4 with piano and then included violin at age 8. A native from Monterrey City, Mexico, he graduated from the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey (ESMDM) in 2006.Since coming to Greensboro, Jorge has held principal positions in regional orchestras in NC and the surrounding states. Currently, he performs with Roanoke Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, Symphony of the Mountains and subs with Asheville and Charleston Symphonies.
October 20: Tuba/Euphonium Collective, Appalachian State University Students of the esteemed Hayes School of Music perform live under the direction of Dr. Beth Wiese. Leading a diverse performance career, Dr. Wiese has performed with a wide variety of orchestras and chamber groups including the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra (Denmark), Macao Orchestra, Korean Broadcasting Symphony, American Brass Quintet, American Wind Symphony, Lakes Area Music Festival and Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has worked with a number of conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, John Williams, Charles Dutoit, Stéphane Denève, Osmo Vanska, and John Adams. As an educator, she has served as an instructor at Yale University and graduate assistant at Northwestern University, working with a large and diverse student population.
November 17: CVCC Chamber Choir The Catawba Valley Community College Chamber choir will perform a selection of choral music under the direction of the incredible Caroline Simyon.
December 15: Holiday Quintet Concert Join local favorites Allison Andrews, Caroline Collins, John Coffey, John David Welch, and Jeremy Whitener in a concert dedicated to the music of the holiday season, both classical and modern!
February 16: John Coffey, piano Hickory-based professional pianist, John Coffey, will be presenting a concert of his favorite pieces of the Romantic era as a late Valentines celebration. Mr. Coffey is one of the most sought after pianists in the Southeast and always delights audiences.
March 16: Grace Wepner-Ludtke Grace will be returning to perform a concert of her favorite harp pieces, true standards of the classical repertoire. Preceded and accompanied by her brother, John Wepner.
April 20: John David Welch, tenor, and Gregory Knight, piano. John David Welch, fresh from his operatic studies at the Manhattan School of Music, will close the 2017-2018 season by presenting a concert of Italian art songs, French opera arias, German lieder, spirituals, and show-tunes. Welch will be accompanied by the incredible pianist, Gregory Knight.Gregory was selected as a finalist in the 2016 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, where he was also awarded the Creative Programming Award.
