Folktober Fest - Music Lessons
Celebrating Folk Music in the Fall = Folktober Fest!
We are thrilled to present a day of music lessons to the Oak Park area on Saturday, September 30th.
Folktober Fest features teaching artists Peggy Browning, Maura Lally, Mark Mitchell, Jason McInnes and Mark Dvorak, presenting a one-day only integrated instruction program.
Sign up now! Bring your playable instruments to participate. All classes will be held at First United Church of Oak Park, 848 Lake Street, Oak Park, IL. Park behind the church or on the street if the lot is full and proceed up the stairs to the back entrance of the church. All classes are $25 each.
We are excited to present the following classes:
MORNING - September 30th - 11 AM - 12:20 all classes require you bring a playable instrument.
Youth Guitar by Jason McInnes (ages 7 and up) 11 AM - 12 PM, children should bring a nut free snack. Juice boxes provided.
Guitar Basics with Maura Lally. Adults will enjoy learning their first chords and strums, or brushing up basic technique.
5-string Banjo basics with Peggy Browning. Adults will enjoy learning first position chords and picking out simple melodies to some great banjo tunes. Bring a playable instrument
Fiddle Repertoire with Mark Mitchell. Adults who are already bowing will enjoy improving technique and working up a handful of fiddle tune favorites.
Finger Picking Guitar Basics with Mark Dvorak. Adults who can change chords comfortably will explore the art of finger picking accompaniment and beginning to play a simple melody.
SECOND HALF of the lesson is from 12:30 - 1 PM. Join faculty, fellow students and friends for a sing along and jam session. All welcome.
AFTERNOON - September 30th, 1:00-2:20 - all classes require you bring a playable instrument.
Improvise & Solo with Jason McInnes. Adult players of all acoustic instruments will explore the basics of creating an instrumental solo and improvising in a group setting. Some theory will be covered.
Celebrating Tradition with Peggy Browning and Maura Lally. Adults will enjoy participating in this acclaimed ensemble. For players of all acoustic instruments.
Irish Fiddle with Mark Mitchell. Adult students who are already bowing will enjoy improving technique and working up a handful of fiddle tune favorites.
Singing Together: Melody & Harmony with Mark Dvorak. Adults who love to sing, or simply like the idea of singing with others, will learn about singing in tune on familiar melodies & finding a basic approach to singing harmony with others.
SECOND HALF of the lesson is from 2:30 - 3:00. Join faculty, fellow students and friends for a sing along and jam session. ALL WELCOME and this part is FREE!
