Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford were more than the first female writing team to be produced in New York. Time after time, they tackled social issues that mattered (and still matter) in America. Im Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road (1978) was the first mainstream feminist musical, running more than 1,000 performances. Now Is the Time for All Good Men (1967) was the first anti-war musicalopening even before Hair. And in 1973, Shelter was the first musical to warn of the dangers of the digital age in separating us from each other. Says Cryer: When its real and true, when it hits you in the gut, theater can be a transforming experience." Their deeply felt songs will be heard for one performance only, and the authors will be on stage with Bill Rudman to talk about them.
