Henna 101 - Natural, Ephemeral, Wearable Art
For hundreds of years and in many parts of the world, the leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis) have been used to adorn the skin for decoration, celebration, and blessing. Kimberly Allcock of Henna Blessings has been creating natural, wearable henna art for over 10 years, and she invites you to learn about the art and technique of henna application. In this workshop you will learn the process of making henna paste and applicators, explore henna application traditions from around the world, learn how to draw design elements and combine them into intricate forms, and create your own ephemeral, wearable work of meditative art. Class cost $45 includes course materials plus a take-home mini-kit to help you keep practicing. Class limited to 16 participants.
While mehndi retains an air of festivity and well-being, it remains a sacred practice intended not just to beautify the body but to invite grace and good fortune into ones home, ones marriage, and ones family. It is a kind of talisman, a blessing on the skin. Loretta Roome, Mehndi, the Timeless Art of Henna Painting
