A Christmas Celebration with the Holst Singers
The annual Breathing Matters UCLH Charity Christmas Concert will take place on Friday 8th December 2017 at 7.30pm. The concert will be given by the Holst Singers, and will take place in the lovely setting of the Inigo Jones designed St Paul's Church just off the Covent Garden piazza.
The concert will feature well-known traditional carols as well as more contemporary Christmas music. The Holst Singers are one of Britain's foremost choirs, described by the BBC as "a leading chorus on the international stage". In concert the choir is renowned for dramatic and engaging performances, described by The Times as "interactive concert going at its most revelatory" while the BBC Music Magazine states that "The Holst Singers sing with a spell bounding sense of atmosphere and crystal clear textures........supremely musical".
Our guest readers this year are well-known BBC Presenters Nigel Rees and Charlotte Green. Nigel Rees is a writer and broadcaster who has presented Radio 4's "Quote....unquote" for 40 years. Charlotte Green has been a familiar voice on the radio for many years, including as a news reader for the Radio 4 "Today" programme, presenter for the comedy programme "The News Quiz", and currently as the reader for "Quote....unquote". In 2013 she joined Classic FM and BBC Radio 5 Live, where she announces the football results.
Breathing Matters (University College London Hospitals charity) supports research at University College London into lung diseases. The proceeds from the concert will specifically fund research into Bronchiectasis and raise awareness of this relatively common but poorly understood chronic lung disease. The main symptom of Bronchiectasis is recurrent chest infections and patients with severe disease may also have problems with their breathing due to the chronic lung damage. Bronchiectasis affects an estimated 100,000 people in the UK and unfortunately there is no cure. Breathing Matters funds research work at University College London by doctors and scientists into why people develop Bronchiectasis and how to best manage the chronic lung infections.
Book your tickets now for what promises to be an evening of wonderful festive entertainment. Tickets are available from Brown Paper Tickets until the evening of 7th December. Subject to availability tickets will be on sale on the door from 6.45pm on the night of the concert (8th December.
