Sarah Beatty w/Peter Horvat @Charslanding
Sat, Jul 22nd, 8-10pm, Concert Sarah Beatty Acoustic Roots
"Inspiring, engaging, and fun" - Canadian Spaces
Quirky and captivating, songwriter and scientist Sarah Beatty sounds a bit like Dusty Springfield coming off a science bender. With a voice as sharp as a silver-spur and dangerous as a diamond-backed sidewinder (Raw Ramp), she's a curious observer and constant inquirer. Her new album, Bandit Queen, released in February of this year peaked at #1 on Canada's Roots charts, has become a staple in Top 30 charts across the country, and keeps on being recognized by bloggers and industry insiders as one of those albums that people need to hear. Far beyond the mainstream, it has landed on international playlists all the way from Nashville to The Netherlands and as an enchanting live performer, she's known for lighting up stages with warmth, wit, and messages that make people think. Shes joined by guitar virtuoso Peter Horvat from Vienna, AT.
Bandit Queen: The thing about Hamilton, ON (CAN) artist Sarah Beatty is that there are many things about Sarah Beatty. A songwriter and a scientist, Beatty embarks on a conceptual adventure in the follow up to her award winning and Top 10 national roots charting debut album Black Gramophone. Kick ass, clever, and groove driven, Bandit Queen is a modern day folk fable with eclectic cinematic stylings. Its a live off the floor spaghetti western starring Beatty as the sometimes brooding, sometimes bodacious, and sometimes beautiful assassin in a shipwrecked epic journey across land, sea, and swamp. Co-conspiratorial sojourners include Justine Fischer on upright bass and Matty Simpson on electric guitar (both of The Fred Eaglesmith Band), and Dave Clark on drums (The Woodshed Orchestra, Rheostatics). Existential dealings, unconventional science, human vulnerabilities, picture painted characters and social commentary havent sounded this fun, funky, or adventurous in a long time.
